Located at the junction of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Area and the Bohai Economic Rim, the Linyi Economic and Technological Development Area has a well-developed sea, land and air transportation system. Established in June 2003 with approval from the People's Government of Shandong Province, the construction area of the zone was initially 122 square kilometers, governing two towns. Through years of expansion and development, the zone now covers 223 sq km and governs 72 villages, incorporating a population of 260,000 people.

Focusing on innovation-driven, scientific development, the zone has achieved great results in terms of social and economic progress. In 2017, revenues reached 253 billion yuan ($36.84), up 20.6 percent; its regional GDP hit 21.8 billion yuan, with an increase of 11.3 percent, and the total output value of industries above a designated scale was valued at 145 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 17.5 percent. In the first five months of this year, the zone made 75.8 billion yuan in revenue and the total output value of industries above a designated scale was 56.1 billion yuan, up 14.3 percent and 13.1 percent respectively.
