Qingdao Free Trade Port Area sits on the west coast of Jiaozhou Bay in Qingdao, Shandong province. Approved by the State Council on Sept 7, 2008, Qingdao Free Trade Port Area covers a planning area of 9.72 square kilometers, including 4.8 sq km of wharf operation area, 4.92 sq km of logistics warehouse processing area and a functional service area. Relying on Qingdao city, the second biggest foreign trade port in China, the port area has grown into the largest container port in the north of the country.  

Having constructed 19 quay berths and opened 72 international aviation routes, the area has introduced more than 6,600 members from around the globe into its international transaction market system, covering rubber, cotton, mining rights, precious metals, chemicals and agricultural products. In 2011, the area attracted 415 projects and its container capacity achieved one million TEU.
