Ningbo International Marine Ecology Tech-city, located in the core area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Zhejiang province, was established in 2010 with a planned area of 333 square kilometers.

Six leading industrial clusters have formed, covering foreign trade, marine life health, marine science, education and culture, and coastal ecotourism.

The State Council approved the setting up of Ningbo Meishan Bonded Area  in 2008. This was the fifth bonded area after Yangshan in Shanghai, Dongjiang in Tianjin, Dayaowan in Dalian and Yangpu in Hainan, as well as the only bonded port area in Zhejiang.

Situated on the north-south shipping lane and the golden waterway of the Yangtze River, the 7.7-sq-km bonded area is regarded as the core of the Ningbo International Marine Ecology Tech-city.

It is within two and a half hours' drive from major international airports in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo.

Up to 2012, there had been 2,100 enterprises with a total registered capital of 20.5 billion yuan ($2.98 million) settled in the area. In 2016, Ningbo International Marine Ecology Tech-city realized GDP of 11.12 billion yuan and fiscal revenue of 6.78 billion yuan. Fixed-asset investment reached 23.5 billion yuan. Foreign trade totaled $1.91 billion.
