Established in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, in 1992, Jinhua Economic and Technological Development Zone (JETD) was approved to be a national economic development zone by the State Council in 2010 and merged with Jinxi Economic and Technological Development Zone in 2013.

With a planned area of 73.8 square kilometers and a population of 450,000, the zone is well known for its advanced local automobile manufacturing industry and electronic information industry, both having industrial output reaching 10 billion yuan ($1,452 million). The zone also lends major support to its biological pharmaceutical industry. It has attracted several international enterprises, including Anheuser-Busch InBev, Biomet and Libao High-tech. New material and energy conservation and environmental protection are among its emerging sectors.

In 2013, the zone invested 7.21 billion yuan into its local industries, a year-on-year growth of 16.54 percent, and achieved a total industrial output of 52.93 billion yuan, an increase of 9.72 percent. By 2013, the area had attracted 155 foreign enterprises with a total investment of $1.24 billion.

JETD always prioritizes the development of its digital economy. There are currently 16 digital technology research centers, three of the national top 100 internet corporations and three listed enterprises in the zone. Enterprises above designated sizes in the sector generated annual revenue of 7.75 billion yuan in 2017, up by 16.2 percent year-on-year.
