The Ganzhou High-tech Industrial Development Zone was established in 2001 and upgraded to a national high-tech zone in September 2015. It already had 366 companies by the end of 2017 and among them, 38 were high-tech companies.

In 2017, the main business income was 32.32 billion yuan ($4.79 billion) and its fixed-asset investment was 5.9 billion yuan. The zone’s exports reached $710 million and the actual use of foreign capital worth $108.7 million that year.

The zone boasts a transportation network involving railway, expressway, aviation and shipping and it is a national comprehensive transportation hub.

In recent years, the central government offered the zone a series of differentiated preferential policies. The zone is also a demonstration area for Made in China 2025 and an industrial demonstration center for national new-type industrialization of new material (rare metals).

The zone has planned a tungsten and rare earth industrial park, an equipment manufacturing industrial park and a biological science and technology park. It centers on developing several centers including a cemented carbide industrial center and a provincial-level civilian-military nonferrous metals new material center.

The zone persists in making the industry of rare earth and tungsten new material and related application the leading sector. It has had an industrial system involving smelting, product application, test, research and development and design. It is the domestically biggest processing center of rare earth and tungsten products.
