Zhengzhou National High and New Technology Industries Development Zone, the first development zone in Henan province, was founded in 1988 and approved to be a national-level high-tech zone by the State Council in 1991. As a core part of the Zhengzhou-Luoyang-Xinxiang National Innovation Demonstration Area established in 2016, the zone governs an area of 99 square kilometers and has a population of 350,000.

Lying in the northwest of Zhengzhou urban area, the zone has a superior geographical position and a three-dimensional transportation network. It is about 12 km from Zhengzhou Railway Station and 50 km from Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone.

The zone has been gathering high-end innovation resources, with some well-known colleges, universities, and research institutes affiliated to ministries, as well as five State-level laboratories and 564 high-tech enterprises.

Over the past 30 years, electronic information, new materials, mechanical and electronic integration, biological medicine, and new energy resources have become the five leading industries of the zone. Among the 156 national high-tech zones, its comprehensive ranking and hi-tech innovation capacity was rated 12th and seventh respectively, according to the evaluation results released by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2015.

In 2018, its GDP totaled 35 billion yuan ($5.16 billion), a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent, and the added value of industries above designated scale reached 8.86 billion yuan, up 14 percent. Its general public budget revenue was 4.11 billion yuan, a growth of 12.5 percent.
