Hohhot Export Processing Zone was established upon the approval of the State Council in June 2002. It is located in the western suburbs of Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region with a planned area of 2.21 square kilometers. The zone officially started operation after passing the acceptance inspection by nine national ministries and commissions in 2007.

The zone is well equipped with infrastructure and facilities for the development of logistics. It cooperates with Shaliang Logistics Park in Hohhot, the largest truck and train modern logistics base in northwest China, to develop the businesses of bonded logistics and warehousing.

The zone currently provides 10 standard factory buildings, as well as preferential policies for export processing zones, to attract export and logistics firms. It is also committed to building itself into a distribution center of imports in the region.

In the first four months of 2018, the total industrial output value of the zone was 18.87 million yuan ($2.82 million). Its import-export trade was valued at 14.22 million yuan in the first quarter of the same year.
