Shanghai Jinqiao Export Processing Zone, a state-level development zone approved by the State Council in 1990 with a planned area of 20 square kilometers, is located in the middle of Pudong New Area, with Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone to its west, Waigaoqiao Bonded Zone to its north and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park to its south.

Following Pudong's industry restructuring in 2010, the export processing zone expanded its administration area to 67.79 square kilometeres and a large-scale industry cluster featuring advanced manufacturing and production service began to take shape. In 2012, the zone was officially renamed as Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone.

According to the development zone's financial index of 2016, the industrial output of enterprises above designated size totaled 193 billion yuan ($28 billion), with a sales revenue of 635.75 billion yuan. The fixed asset investment reached 10.73 billion yuan and the volume of foreign investment added up to $730 million.
