Changzhi Hi-tech Industrial Development Area was established in 1992 and was upgraded to be a state-level hi-tech zone in February 2015 by the State Council.

With its planning area increased from 7.53 square kilometers to 104.31 sq km, it is presently composed of four parks, including the science and technology industrial park, the Zhangze Industrial Park, the Laodingshan Logistics Park, and the Zhaidian Industrial Park.

By fully implementing the innovation-driven strategy, the zone has developed five main leading industries of biomedicine, equipment manufacturing, electronic information, health-care foods, and modern service.

It is home to more than 4,000 enterprises, including 267 industrial enterprises, of which 17 ones have an annual industrial output value above 20 million yuan ($2.90 million).

Shanxi Lu'an Environmental Energy Development Co, Kangbao Biological Product Co, Dali Foods Group, the Guangdong-based supplier of Apple's ear buds Luxshare Precision Industry Co, Orient Fitness and Health Industry Co, and Eagles Men Aeronautic Science and Technology Group have set up their subsidiaries or research, development and production bases in the zone.

In 2017, the zone's operation revenue totaled 35.83 billion yuan. The total output value of enterprises with an annual industrial output value above 20 million yuan reached 29.7 billion yuan. The fiscal revenue was 2.69 billion yuan.
