Changchun Economic and Technological Development Zone, located in the eastern part of Changchun, Jilin province, was upgraded to a State-level economic and technological development zone under the approval of the State Council in April 1993.

Covering an area of 112 square kilometers with a permanent resident population of 300,000, the development zone is the core of Changchun's program of boosting the city's industrialization development.

By the end of 2016, more than 7,000 enterprises were approved to set up in the zone, including some 700 foreign-invested companies and the 46 enterprises founded and invested by Fortune Global 500 companies, accounting for more than 50 percent of the city's total. A total of 84 transnational corporations from 29 countries and regions around the world invested in the zone.

In the future, the zone will further promote the development of its auto-part, biochemical, modern service, biopharmacy, and opto-electronic industries by strengthening its cooperation with other cities and regions, and try to develop itself into a comprehensive and international zone with urban functions by 2020, with its comprehensive strength in the first rank of all the national-level development zones.
