Dianzhong New Area

Dianzhong New Area was approved by the State Council on Sept 7, 2015. Located in the east and west side of the downtown Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan province, it is viewed as a new urbanization comprehensive experimental area and a first-to-go area of reform and innovation in Southwest China.

As the core area of the Dianzhong Industrial Cluster, the New Area covers a part of Anning city, Songming county and Guandu district with 482 sq km. It boasts an advantageous geographical location, strengths in scientific innovation, large capacities for housing various industries and solid foundation of opening-up and cooperation.

The area’s Party branch and administrative committee were unveiled in March 2016, a milestone for its construction and development.

Its industrial structure is made up of modern services, petroleum refining and processing, auto and equipment manufacturing, airport-based industry, new materials, bio-medicine and electronic information.

It is home to Songming Yanglin Economic and Technological Development Zone, Kunming Airport Economic Zone, Anning Industrial Park, Anning Taiping New Town, Songming Vocational Education Base and Anning Vocational Education Base.

In 2016, Dianzhong New Area’s GDP was 50.11 billion yuan ($7.83 billion), up 8.8 percent year-on-year; the fixed asset investment above the designated size reached 71.7 billion yuan, up 32.7 percent, including 16.5 billion yuan of industrial investment, an increase of 21 percent year-on-year; the general public budget revenue was 7.68 billion yuan, an increase of 77.2 percent (deducting the 2.8 billion yuan from disposable income via franchising, the general public budget revenue was 4.88 billion yuan, up 12.6 percent year-on-year); the actual utilization of domestic capital reached 74.38 billion yuan, up 74 percent, with investment from industrial projects growing 23 percent year on year; the actual utilization of foreign capital reached $178 million, up 256 percent year on year.
